Lyrics

Maiasaura
She's the momma
She sits right by her nest
While her babies are taking a rest

Maiasaura
She's the momma
She'll head out for a plant snack
Then she'll be right back

She's a duck-billed herbivore
Known as a hadrosaur
From the late Cretaceous Period
Nearly 77 million years ago

Eating things we wouldn't dream of
Like rotting wood, tree bark and leaves
She needed hundreds of teeth to chew and grind these

Maiasaura
She's the momma
She sits right by her nest
While her babies are taking a rest

Maiasaura
She's the momma
She'll head out for a plant snack
Then she'll be right back

Roaming upper coastal plains
In a herd they kept each other safe
And built their nests tucked in close together

She made her babies' home right out of the earth
30-40 eggs in a spiral pattern
And she kept them warm by surrounding them
With vegetation

Newborns had big round eyes
A shorter snout
They were so cute
They weighed just 2.2 pounds
But would grow 4,400 more
In just eight years
Can you imagine that?

Maiasaura
She's the momma
She sits right by her nest
While her babies are taking a rest
